From Hershey’s Chocolate World to the Disney Store, Times Square is known for showcasing mega-brands in big, bold ways. However, for the next two months, one store in this busy NYC neighborhood is redirecting the spotlight to smaller, New York-based brands that don’t always get their, ahem, flowers.
In celebration of Croptober, The Daily Green dispensary in the heart of Midtown Manhattan is offering customers the chance to win a full pound of cannabis when they buy flower from four standout small-batch New York brands: Rolling Green (Catskills), Major (Queens), High Ambitions (City Island), and Hurley Grown (Hurley).
“Oftentimes the smaller, local craft brands can get overshadowed by the big national companies,” Chris Thompson, director of operations and marketing at The Daily Green, told HighWays Travel. “We’re doing our part to make sure our customers know about our fantastic local growers in New York!”
What is Croptober?
Modern farms can reap multiple crops a year, but back when all growers worked outdoors, October signaled the extremely busy annual harvest time. “Croptober is really a celebration of the hard work and dedication to their craft that legacy cultivators put into the cannabis industry long before today’s legalized industry,” said Thompson.
To encourage customers to explore some of the best small-batch craft cannabis that New York has to offer, The Daily Green is hosting an eight-week Croptober Harvest Festival, complete with in-store events, can’t-miss deals, and a windfall of New York-grown cannabis for one lucky winner.
The Craft Experience
HighWays Travel was among a small group of media invited by The Daily Green to kick off the festivities with a trip to Hurley Grown’s farm. After a hazy (so to speak…) two hours, we arrived at the 110-acre farm just outside of Kingston, NY. That’s where husband-wife team Dakota and Mira Miller and a small crew grow a wide variety of organic produce along with craft outdoor cannabis.
“We farm regeneratively and take the USDA organic certification very seriously,” Dakota shared. “I wouldn’t want my kids swimming in this creek after I sprayed chemicals on my plants.” While cannabis is not eligible to be officially classified as USDA organic, the farm uses similar practices in both aspects of its business.
We spent the early afternoon strolling the fields, touching and smelling the plants, and learning about everything from the way that Hurley Grown naturally regenerates their soil to the genetics that Dakota is most excited about this season. Understanding the care that goes into each plant made the smooth Trop Cherry joints we were smoking taste even more special.
As we sat down to lunch at a table decorated with packages of prerolls and baskets of freshly harvested tomatoes, I picked the brains of The Daily Green’s team for everything you need to know for your chance to win a full pound of flower.
