Every summer, thousands of music lovers make the pilgrimage to the redwoods of Northern California for one of the country’s most iconic festivals. Reggae on the River isn’t simply another NorCal weekend of live performances and influencer-friendly photo ops; it’s a true community celebration of reggae culture, the great outdoors, and the welcoming spirit of Southern Humboldt County.

Since 1984, Reggae on the River has brought hundreds of local and international musical acts—and hundreds of thousands of festivalgoers—to the banks of the majestic Eel River. Most attendees camp on site all weekend, turning the event into an excuse to spend three days taking in stunning scenery, reveling in nature, and unplugging from the routine of everyday life.

While the festival itself isn’t explicitly a cannabis event, it’s impossible to separate the experience from where it happens. In Humboldt, the plant and the place intertwine, and Reggae on the River takes that attitude and runs with it. 🌲 Tickets

Festivalgoers can purchase one-, two-, and three-day tickets. Prices range from $139 to $309 per person. Discounts are available for teenagers and seniors, and kids 12 and under get in for free.

Tickets are sent via email in the form of scannable QR codes. Cell phone service in the area can be spotty, so be sure to screenshot your code in case you can’t access your email when you need it. Once inside the festival, you’ll get a bracelet denoting what you have access to on the festival grounds.

All Reggae on the River tickets include general admission camping access. Car and RV camping are available for additional fees:

• Car camping: $179-$249 for three days
• RV camping: $799 for three days

Reggae on the River was originally conceived as a fundraiser, and more than four decades later, that altruistic spirit still shapes the festival today. “The profits have always gone right back into the Southern Humboldt community,” Nicole Bondurant, the event’s advertising director, told HighWays Travel. Today, the event raises money to help support local arts programs and youth initiatives.

🌲 Getting There

The closest airport to County Line Ranch is Arcata-Eureka Airport (ACV), which is about two hours north of Piercy, CA. From the airport, rent a car or arrange for ground transportation to the festival.

You can also fly into Santa Rosa (STS), San Francisco International Airport (SFO), Oakland Airport (OAK), or Sacramento International Airport (SMF). The flights are more frequent, though the drive will be a little bit longer. However, if you’re looking for a road trip through exquisite natural terrain ranging from mountains to forests, there are few places more beautiful to do it.

Parking

Weekend parking is available for a fee. Spaces are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you can’t get into the main festival lot, there are several parking areas within 0.5 miles, and shuttle service is provided throughout the day to the festival site.

If you want to leave and return, you’ll need to pay again when you re-enter. Larger carpools might be eligible for free parking—ask about it at the gate!

Getting Around

A shuttle is available to help you get around throughout the festival and the local area. Rides are $5 each, or pay $20 for a weekend pass. Shuttle stops include Redway, Garberville, Benbow, Richardson’s Grove State Park, Richardson’s Grove RV Park/Patriot Gas Station, the overflow parking lot at French’s Camp, the box office, and, finally, County Line Ranch.

🌲 Camping and Glamping

About 5,000 people attend Reggae on the River each year, and according to Bondurant, roughly 90 percent of them stay on site.

Tent Camping

For many attendees, camping is part of the tradition. The main campgrounds are located along the river bar, putting you within walking distance of the music.

Car Camping

Car camping offers the convenience of easy access to your vehicle and all of your belongings throughout the weekend. A car camping pass includes the space for your vehicle, as well as an adjacent 10’ x 10’ space for a tent.

RV Camping

Buses and RVs up to 35 feet long can buy a pass for RV parking. No tents are allowed in the RV area, and all generators must be kept on board the vehicle.

Glamping

New to the festival for 2026: glamping! These fully furnished accommodations let you enjoy the experience of staying on site without having to buy all the gear you need for three days of camping. Says Bondurant. “You can fly into Arcata, rent a car, and nearly everything you need will already be there waiting for you when you arrive.”

“It’s really a one-stop shop,” Bondurant says. “Come to the middle of the woods—we’ve got everything you need.”
