The BFFs Behind Two Amigas Cannabis Accessories Share Their Expert Puerto Rico Travel Recommendations

Anita: It’s hard to pick just one thing. Our music, our food, and, most of all, the warmth and happiness of our people are what make Puerto Rico so special. There’s a natural sense of hospitality here that makes people feel welcome.

Jenn: Many people believe we’re just a beach destination, but that’s only one small piece of what makes Puerto Rico incredible. The diverse culture that shifts from town to town, the cuisine, the wellness scene, and the entertainment industry—all woven into island living, alongside the people behind it—make this Caribbean location a magical place.

Anita: It still surprises me how many people don’t know that Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory and that Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens. We’re very much part of the United States while also having a culture and identity that are uniquely our own.

Jenn: Medical cannabis has expanded since its approval in 2017. Many local growers offer great-quality cannabis. People have normalized consumption outside their homes, even though it’s not technically legal—many areas near bars and restaurants are packed with people smoking outside.

Anita: Vibrant and increasingly accepted. Cannabis is legal in Puerto Rico for medicinal purposes, and its use has become much more widely accepted over the years. There’s definitely a growing openness and appreciation for cannabis culture here.

Jenn: It’s impossibly hard to choose just one. We love places that source their ingredients locally and get creative with local cuisine. My top four: Orujo, Vianda, Bartolo, and Marmalade. I’m also obsessed with the pistachio smoothie from Salut—they’re only open on weekends.

Anita: Every visitor should experience what good Puerto Rican food feels like. I would take them to Guavate for lechón a la varita with arroz con gandules. It’s more than just a meal—the whole experience of seeing the lechón roasting on the spit, surrounded by music, people, and the energy of the area, is quintessentially Puerto Rican.

Jenn: Nature lovers shouldn’t miss the Tanamá River canyoning adventure. I could kick myself for waiting so long to do it. We had a wonderful tour guide—absolutely recommend it. A group of us spent the day bathing in natural mud, discovering unusual wildlife, and floating through a canyon. Our guide, Jose from Aventureo PR, was a true guide.

Anita: Culebra. It’s a small island just a short flight from Ceiba, and it has some of the most pristine beaches you’ll ever see. It feels like a little escape within an already beautiful island.

Jenn: If it’s only one: Old San Juan. Architecture, vibes, food scene, beach, culture, entertainment, and so many treats.

Anita: That’s a difficult one because there are so many, but I’d have to say Old San Juan. You get a real sense of Puerto Rico’s history while being surrounded by incredible food, bars, music, and local shops. And, of course, the colorful streets and beautiful architecture make it pretty hard to resist.

Jenn: Head to Fajardo, pack a cooler, and walk the hidden path to Playa Escondida (Hidden Beach). It’s the perfect place to commune with nature, get your steps in, and feel like you own the ocean for the entire morning. Drive 15 minutes, and pick a restaurant by the beach for an early dinner before heading to the Bioluminescent Bay for a nighttime kayaking adventure under the stars. Head back to San Juan by 9 p.m. for salsa at La Factoría in Old San Juan, stay overnight, and grab breakfast before heading home.

Anita: I’d start early with a trip to El Yunque and a good hike, ideally one that takes you high enough to see the incredible views of the island. Then I’d head to Los Kioskos de Luquillo for a late lunch or early dinner and some classic Puerto Rican food. After that, I’d go back to Old San Juan and dance the night away!

Jenn: We are great friends. We understand the benefits and how it can help unlock our full potential. We’re obsessed with living our best lives with objects that represent us and our journey.

Anita: I’m an avid consumer and an advocate for its benefits. I appreciate cannabis not only for its effects but also for the way it can enhance certain experiences and become part of a lifestyle.

Jenn: I’m torn between a road trip and beach bumming. Puerto Rico has so many enchanting, scenic roads that make you feel like you’re really going somewhere—but sparking up to the sound of the waves, with that quiet connection to nature, lets your body feel a different kind of close.

Anita: Go for coffee at a local coffee shop. There’s something about a good cup of coffee, sitting back, and taking in the energy of Old San Juan that I really enjoy.

Jenn: Amsterdam, hands down. The coffee shop culture is incredibly freeing. So many options to spark freely, surrounded by an energy that blends tradition and innovation among so many like-minded people!

Anita: Amsterdam. My first time there was about 20 years ago, and seeing how liberal and open the cannabis culture was back then was incredibly eye-opening. I’ve been back twice since, and I still love it just as much. There’s something special about the way cannabis has been integrated into the city’s culture.

Jenn: 2012, an epic bonfire on a beach in Rincón, sparking Death Star OG. If you can find me that strain again, I will gladly offer up my firstborn!

Anita: One that definitely sticks with me happened in Bogotá, Colombia. We stepped outside a restaurant to smoke a joint, and some police officers smelled cannabis. After dealing with the situation (and being $100 USD lighter), we learned an important lesson: In Colombia, no smoking means no smoking!

Jenn: Colorado. It’s basically the birthplace of legal recreational cannabis in the U.S. I’d love to see how that culture has matured over the years.

Anita: Thailand. I’d love to experience its unique cannabis culture while exploring the country’s incredible food, beaches, temples, and natural beauty.

Jenn: Bacalar, Mexico. The Lagoon of Seven Colors is unreal, and it still flies under the radar compared to Tulum or Cancún—quiet, magical, and completely underrated.

Anita: Cañón del Chicamocha, Colombia. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, and it deserves much more attention.

Jenn: Vieques, Puerto Rico. A sister island off Puerto Rico’s east coast, reached by boat, ferry, or small plane. Beautifully undeveloped, with miles and miles of coastline, great local cuisine, and top-notch vibes.

Anita: Yosemite National Park. The scale and beauty of the landscape are something everyone should experience at least once.
