East Indica Cannabis Cards: The Pocket-Sized Collectibles Archiving New York’s Legal Scene

Part collectible, part education tool, and part marketing engine, East Indica Cannabis Cards are helping document—and legitimize—cannabis culture across New York.

In New York State, a different kind of cannabis innovation is taking shape, and it doesn’t involve flower, pre-rolls, or even edibles—at least, not at first glance. East Indica Cannabiz Company, a scrappy startup based in Putnam Valley, is reimagining how people interact with cannabis products through something deceptively simple and delightfully nostalgic: trading cards.

Collectible cards aren’t new, but applying this concept to cannabis is. And for travelers exploring New York’s cannabis scene, East Indica offers a unique souvenir that captures not just what you bought, but where you were, and where the industry is right now.

What Are Cannabis Cards, Exactly?

East Indica Cannabiz Company makes credit card-sized collectibles designed to educate and connect consumers with legal cannabis products. One side of the card displays artwork and information about a particular strain, product, or dispensary. On the other, you can learn details like the origin of the strain, flavor and scent profiles, expected effects, terpenes, cannabinoids, and more. Every card also showcases a QR code that links to more in-depth information about that place or product.

For East Indica’s co-founders, Patrick Velardo and Brian Mimz, the company’s mission is clear: help consumers understand what they’re buying—and where they’re buying it from. Each collaboration is co-branded, reinforcing a sense of shared growth within New York’s cannabis ecosystem.

More than just novelty items, these cards are designed to shift consumers away from unregulated products and toward a more informed, transparent experience. They’re educational tools, brand builders, and an evolving archive of New York’s legal cannabis market.

More recently, packs have expanded to include four CBD/CBN “Sweet Dreams” raspberry gummies from Green Spectrum, turning East Indica cards into a hybrid product that’s part collectible, part consumable. You also get a foldable pipe, and there’s even a built-in element of gamification. “Every pack comes with a scratch-off card, and every one is a winner,” explains Velardo. “You can redeem them for prizes on the East Indica website, like t-shirts, posters, coupons, and more.”

If you come across East Indica Cannabis Cards in a New York dispensary, here’s what to expect:

  • Price: $10 per pack
  • Contents: 10 collectible cards, a foldable pipe, and CBD/CBN gummies
  • Bonus: A scratch-off card to win prizes redeemable on the East Indica website.

From the Hemp Fields to a Bigger Idea

Velardo started East Indica Cannabiz Company in 2020, but his path into cannabis started at ground level—literally. He was working on a hemp farm when the 2018 Farm Bill reshaped the industry, opening the door for legal hemp production across the U.S.

From there, Velardo moved into sales for a CBD brand, a job that brought him through the doors of hundreds of dispensaries around the state. “I thought, how cool would it be to have my own product on the shelf?” he says. What began with a 500-card print run has since grown into a statewide trend. As of press time, East Indica works with:

  • More than 35 dispensaries
  • Dozens of cannabis brands
  • Over 100 unique cards (and counting)

Production runs range from 1,000 to 20,000 cards per partner, and distribution runs the gamut from in-store retail to event giveaways to promotional materials.

Building Trust, One Card at a Time

In a market still grappling with unlicensed shops and untested products, the cards act as a bridge by highlighting legal brands, reinforcing the importance of lab-tested products (COAs), and encouraging consumers to shop at licensed dispensaries.

All products are made and packaged in New York, and for now, plans are to keep it that way. “We can’t move out of New York without conquering all of New York,” he says. That includes deeper partnerships, more cards, and broader distribution across the state—before eventually branching into other regions with new themes (think: West Coast, Midwest).

In a space where trust, transparency, and education still need to be built, something as simple as a card can go a long way.
